I am convinced that some people will never get this one right

It no longer makes me angry

I no longer lose patience

I approach this interchange expecting the worst.

This is a HOV lane on my way home from work. The “closed” portion is open in the morning, but has no traffic on it in the afternoon.

There is a sign before this interchange that states “Maintain Two Lanes” which a few select people interpret as “There are two lanes now, there are going to continue to be two lanes, I have noticed which one I’m in now, and will act accordingly to stay in this one.”

I do not know what the rest of the drivers interpret it as. Maybe they don’t see it? Maybe they don’t understand it? All I do know is that this ends up being a free for all just about every time I go through it.

Kinja'd!!!

This (above) is the interchange. Red should aim for left lane, blue for right.

Kinja'd!!!

Here it is again. I added the lane lines to illustrate what should happen.

Kinja'd!!!

This is what happens.

Without lines there is anarchy. Some people need lines.

So, pretty much this?

More like this. We all pass through at 70mph, and do this 2 into 1 into 2 into 1 into 2 clusterfuck.

I’m shocked there are never accidents.

I’m usually in the left lane, and make sure I’m not along side anyone in the right lane as we pass through it.

And the turn signals some of them use - they could mean anything.

(I’d warn about language, but if it’s good enough for the Speaker of the House, it’s good enough for me.)

That just seems like bad traffic engineering. Most people can’t obey a yield sign much less navigate this.

Why haven’t they painted temporary lines?

I'll assume that's 395. Yeah, I just tuck in on the right and allow the chaotic swerving to go on elsewhere...there's always the shoulder to bail on. It's a silly setup.

My guess is that it’s safer this way.

Imagine what they would do if they were traveling the other direction in the morning. That side of the road is closed in the morning.

If those lines (second pic) were on the road, people would probably follow them right into the gates.

Well, now McMike needs to blast this Office Space Mike Bolton style as he transits this stretch each day.

I think northbound in the morning would be a bigger problem if there were lines drawn.

Ahh, gotcha. Thought that the other road was entirely closed for construction or something.

If I came upon this crap, I would ignore the sign. Look at the road. No dashed lane divider means one lane... thus alternate merge... Which everyone knows means do whatever the fuck you gotta do to get as far and as fast as possible away from idiots.

So it seems par for the course here.

My experience with lane paintings is that cops usually will look at the road and claim it’s one lane. Fuck the sign - it’s old and left over from earlier days

LED lane markers tat can be turned on or off? Directional reflectors? Cones? Gates to block the appropriate section? Seems like there should be something they can do to make it work better.
